What to do With All Those Christmas Cards

Now that Christmas is over and I finally got all of decorations and the tree down and all the gifts put away and ran off all those extra calories Smile. I was looking at the cards I received and wondered what can I do with these? I don’t really want to throw them in the garbage especially the photo cards. I searched the internet and found some inspiration.

I Spy Quilt

031

A few months ago, one of my favorite bloggers over at A Girl and Glue Gun held an I Spy Fabric Swap. She graciously arranged to have 20 people send in 20 squares of 5 different fabrics package them and send them back out to all the participants……by the way I don’t know how she does all she does on her blog, she has the greatest ideas and is really witty and funny!

I was super anxious to get my package in the mail. When it arrived my son 5 yr old son spent the whole evening checking out all the different fabrics and picking the ones out the he liked the most. There was such variety and so many fun patterns!

If you are unfamiliar with I SPY. It’s a book collection that is basically a picture of collection of objects with a list of items you have to find. It’s really fun for the kids.

Since I don’t really have any quilting skills yet…working on that one. I just arranged the squares and sewed them together. For the back, I used a thin fleece blanket that you can find anywhere this time year for around 2 bucks on clearance.

I tied it. Used an old sheet that I picked up from goodwill for the binding that I did by Hand. I found a really good video on You Tube for learning how to bind a quilt

And Since I am posting about I SPY quilts I thought I would share a quilt that one of my former coworkers, who happens to be a very talented quilted and seamstress, made for my son when he was born.

She had everyone else in the lab pick out a fabric and she put it all together. I love this pattern. I think when I finally get another I SPY stash together I will do something similar for my nephews. They need one of these quilts!039

It’s Kind of hard to see but she even machine quilted in everyone’s name!
